Inducted Guard Platoon WIP

I'm trying to get my I platoon which have languished in their base coated state for about two years now, up to scratch.  I need to get them to at least the same kind of level as my sisters which is painted to at least three colours with shading/highlighting, etc.  I've touched up some of the base coats and have all 25 of them washed with devlan mud, ready for the highlight/dry brush of skull white.

Thankfully I have Thursday off due to working the public holiday on May Day so I should have them smashed out for Quartermaster 2 this coming weekend and hopefully a few other bits and bobs done.  I also have a university assignment due on Friday that is calling my name so we shall see how it all goes.

In other news, I managed to get my arse handed to me by a local player at the club the other weekend.  I went down hard to his Blood Angels and was wiped off the board by about turn 6.  I made one tactical mistake bunching up several units that let him pull off a multi charge with his Death Company and also made the error of not discussing the terrain properly before the match.  This second mistake led to my guard platoon going down due to not being in cover.  It was a good game and Nick is a great opponent, so I shall look forward to further thrashings in the future.

Awesome Girlfriend!

No, my girlfriend hasn't hijacked my blogger account and is posting randomly.  This last weekend I went away to Mackay to play in a tournament and when I got home, I received a rather belated Birthday present.  She had ordered it over a month before my birthday in August and it only just arrived in the shop last week.

I intend to put it to very good use on my Tau and probably also helping to put down base coats on her Daemons.  I've put a cooler that I received for entering into the tournament beside it for scale.

Bob the Piratical Preacher

I meant to finish this model about a week ago but life has been finding lots of ways to make painting time non existent.  I finally had a chance to sit down and get him finished tonight.  He's part of my Witch Hunters army and is normally fielded as a regular IST albeit holding a plasmagun.  The reason for getting him finished apart from getting the army done is that I'm entering him Bolter and Chainsword's Blood Duel competition.  If he beats anyone, I'll be impressed as his entry is a bit of a joke.  I'm not entirely sold on his base and might put a was on it to bring back some of the depth again.

Edit - I'm not super happy with his robes and his plasmagun could do with some highlights I think.  Undecided on whether to do any text on his parchment or not as well.  Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

In the works

Now that things have quietened down a little, I've started sorting out things to do to finish off existing projects and letting myself enjoy a few small projects also. On my plate at the moment, I have a unit of Chaos Warriors to put together and paint for my fantasy army. I've also started on a bloodbowl team.

This is also the first time ever that I've tried using a white undercoat. I'll have to use washes a fair bit which is also something fairly new to recreate the blacklining effects that I've started to use when painting models from a black undercoat. It's certainly proving to be a good learning experience and if it takes me longer, it doesn't matter so much with only 16 figures in total to paint.

Well it's been quite a few busy months since my last update. I've barely had time to scratch myself. However I've finished my Christmas shopping, wrapped the presents and put them under the tree. Tonight I decided to finally catch up on all those photos that I'd been meaning to take.

I'm pulling my finger out, and getting all the stuff ready for COWCON 2008. I've already accepted that I won't get my Witch Hunters to a finished standard, but I still have some goals. I'm aiming to have my three basic colours on each model, including some highlighting on the blue to actually make it visible on the models.
